The 3rd album by the talented Cuebur, real name Nicholas Mboweni.
Born in Middleburg in Mpumalanga, Cuebur comes from a hip hop background. His claim to fame comes in the form of a track entitled “Pepe”, which as the story goes, was about to be turfed, before he decided to hand it to DJ Zinhle’s record label…the track went on to [arguably] define Zinhle’s career, and the rest is history.
It’s sad that his previous albums weren’t as well marketed as they could’ve been, especially Awakened Spirit, which I found to sound a lot like the A Giant Leap album of Culoe De Song…you know, with that tribal percussive feel to it.
For Heads Only is released courtesy of Soul Candi and features a few collaborations with some other fine artists. For example, No Doubt, which is a collaboration with Marissa Guzman, the highly talented vocalist from San Francisco.
There’s also a collaboration with DJ Shimza, newly signed to Soulistic Music, on the track Asamoya.
Apart from two tracks on the album with Thandi Draai, Cuebur and Thandi have gone on to produce another gem in “I’m In Love” with the likes of Trinidadian Deep on remix duties.
For Heads Only is available in all decent music stores or you can purchase tracks from the album and more by Cuebur, here
